ednesday
found us having pulled into Ketchikan in the early morning before daybreak.
We opened our curtains on our balcony at 7 a.m. to find the shops in the
Ketchikan downtown district were already open.
Ketchikan reminded me of every Mediterranean
seaport that I had ever visited while in the Navy. Lots of jewelry stores
with clerks who weren't local (they only came to work there in the tourist
season) and they wanted your money.
Several in our party took side trips and had
a lot of fun. They went highlining at the rainforest canopy on the edge
of Ketchikan. But the visit to the downtown area was somewhat disappointing
for several of us. Suggestions - take a few sidetrips and avoid all 300
jewelery stores (seemed like that many, anyway).
Wednesday evening's dinner was our 2nd chance
to dress formally. It was another gala time in the dining room as we were
underway again for Victoria, BC, scheduled to arrive at about 8 a.m. on
Thursday.
